Five More COVID-19 Cases in Del Norte County Are Connected to Pelican Bay State Prison; Other Positive Staffers Are Curry County Residents

Five new COVID-19 cases connected with Pelican Bay State Prison staff were reported to the Del Norte County Public Health Branch on Thursday.

Other positive cases are connected with prison staff who live in Curry County. The Curry County Office of Emergency Management hasn't been updated since Wednesday.

There are currently 22 active COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County, according to the Public Health Branch.

From a Del Norte Public Health Branch news release:

Public Health continued to receive reports of new confirmed cases from Pelican Bay State Prison staff. All of the positives reported today are related to PBSP and all positive cases are self-isolating at home. Contact tracing is currently underway and some cases are still under investigation. Other positive cases were reported today, but were residents of Curry County and are not reflected in Del Norte County's total.

Nearly all of the new cases from PBSP staff are asymptomatic. With this in mind, we continue to urge our residents to be diligent in preventing the spread of this virus through proper hand hygeine, proper social distancing, and wearing face coverings in public.
