Oregon Man Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver on Highway 101 Near Smith River Last Night

Press release from the California Highway Patrol:
On January 2, 2020, at approximately 2132 hours, a 37-year-old male pedestrian was walking southbound on US-101 north of Timbers Boulevard on the west shoulder. An unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on US-101 and struck thed pedestrian. The unknown vehicle fled the scene on US-101 in a southbound direction.
The pedestrian was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital by Del Norte Ambulance and later life-flighted to Mercy Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation and the name of the deceased pedestrial is being held pending notification to next of kin. Information regarding the hit-and-run vehicle is being withheld at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
