Smith River Alliance Seeks Volunteers for Coastal Cleanup Day


Volunteers will come together with trash bags and pickers to clean Del Norte County’s coastal areas this weekend.

Students with Crescent Elk Middle School and Joe Hamilton Elementary School will kick off California Coastal Cleanup Day on Friday, according to a news release from the Smith River Alliance. The SRA will lead the community-wide effort on Saturday, joining the largest volunteer event on the planet, according to the release.

This year, the Smith River Alliance will award Vita Cucina gift certificates to the two groups with the most enthusiastic trash removal teams. Lunch and snacks will be provided, but volunteers must RSVP.

Organizers for the 2019 Del Norte Coastal Cleanup include the Whale Tail License Plate Grant Program, Hambro WSG, the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority, Rural Human Services, Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation, Take A Bite out of Blight, the Trash Dogs and Organic Essence.

Sponsors include Chimney Kraft, Crescent City, Crescent Ace Hardware, Elk Valley Rancheria, Tolowa Dunes Stewards, Home Depot, Los Bagels, Kokatat, Rumiano Cheese, Tidewater Contractors and Wildberries Market Place, according to the news release.
