Arts Notes for the Art Scene of Wednesday 11/13/19

Brian Scott Gallery
Brian Scott Gallery, located at 515 Chetco Ave in Brookings, is featuring wire wrap jewelry and weaving on metal mesh by Dorothy Marshall for the month of November. Alongside this work, the Gallery showcases more than 25 artists. The Gallery invites you to network while enjoying coffee, tea, and an ocean view on their patio in the Snug Studio for Brown Bag Thursdays from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. each week with live music entertainment. Manley Art Center and Gallery
The Manley Art Center and Gallery at 433 Oak St in Brookings is open 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Children of all ages are invited to the Center on Saturdays to see work created by member artists and to work in the classroom. Fog and Fine Art Gallery
Located in Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supply at 810 Chetco Ave in Brookings, the Fog and Fine Art Gallery displays many local artists showing a variety of media including jewelry, pottery, painting, and more. The Gallery also has a dedicated classroom that inspires new and seasoned artists with workshops. The Gallery is open from 10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Saturday. DNACA’s Juried Multimedia Show
The prospectus and entry form are available for the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ 28^th Annual Juried Multimedia Show. The show intake will be from 5:15 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14 at the Del Norte Superior Court at 450 H St in Crescent City. The exhibit will be on display until the public reception honoring the participating artists from 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16. Artists may enter up to two pieces for $10 per piece. Those who are juried into this show become eligible to be asked to hang a solo show in the courthouse or airport later this year. Art in Public Places
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit in the Del Norte Superior Court at 450 H St in Crescent City is a collection of paintings by Susan Moore titled “Life Through My Eyes.” Tomorrow will be the last day to view this exhibit as the Juried Multimedia Show goes up on Friday. The courthouse is open from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays. DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibit on the mezzanine of the CEC airport at 1650 Dale Rupert Rd is titled “West Coast Splendor,” a collection of pastels by Les Cornish. This show will be available for viewing through March 5. The airport terminal’s regular hours are 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. weekdays, 6:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Saturdays, and 6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Sundays. California Guitar Trio
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness continues its 37^th Season with a concert by California Guitar Trio at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16. The Trio is a returning Del Norte favorite, playing acoustic fusion guitar that includes everything from classical to jazz to rock to world music. Tickets are available at Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St in Crescent City and at Wright’s Custom Framing at 810 Chetco Ave in Brookings. General tickets are $18, senior (65+) and transitional-aged youth (18-25) are $15, and students (k-college, full-time) are $12. DNACA’s 37^th Season Tickets
Season tickets for the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ 2019-20 season will be available until the second concert on November 16. The remaining four concerts in the series are: California Guitar Trio, returning favorite fusion ensemble on Saturday, November 16; Barrio Manouche, Gypsy jazz and flamenco dance on Friday, February 21; Okaidja Afroso, Ghanaian music, dance and storytelling on Friday, April 3; and Sarah Hagen in her one-woman comedy, “Perk up, Pianist!” on Saturday, May 9. All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. and take place at Crescent Elk Auditorium at 994 G St in Crescent City. Season tickets still provide a discount to the remaining four individual performances and are transferable and replaceable if lost. They are in Crescent City at Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St and in Brookings at Wright’s Custom Framing at 810 Chetco Ave. General season tickets are $70, Senior (65+) are $55, Student (K-College, Full-Time) are $45, and Group (4 people total) are $160. California Redwoods Art Association
The California Redwoods Art Association’s 2^nd St Gallery, located at 1228 2nd St in Crescent City, offers featured artists, a gift shop, and workshops in varying media available with prior registration. Join them for a Chamber of Commerce Mixer from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on November 21 and a holiday sale from 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. November 22. The Gallery is also displaying members’ collections throughout the community, including: Sutter Coast Hospital and their Infusion Center and Wild Rivers Community Foundation. Arts for Veterans
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness is offering complimentary season tickets to the 37^th Performance Series for veterans who self-identify as disabled and their family members.
 
The current course of guitar workshops with teaching artist Dale Morgan takes place in the Fireside Room of the VFW Hall at 810 H St in Crescent City. Beginning class is from 5:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m. on Mondays, through November 18. Intermediate class is from 5:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, through November 19.
 
All workshops are free-of-charge to veterans and their family members. Families are eligible whether or not the veteran participates. DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program is funded in part by Veterans in the Arts, a program of the California Arts Council, a state agency. Learn more at arts.ca.gov. Gallery of Arts and Culture
The Gallery of Arts and Culture at 175 H St features artists including Ronald Kusina, Michael Tompkins, Alan Justice, Daniel Desmond, Marianne Strehler, Nan Marie Wineinger, Michael Jackson, Rive Nestor, John Hewitt, David LaBrier, Stephen Sable, Laura Wiens, W. Coast Redwoods Art Association
Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery, located at 140 Marine Way in Crescent City, will feature photography by Mario Vaden for the month of November. There will not be a demo for November or December, taking a break for holidays. Saturdays from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the gallery include a papier maché program. Sundays from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. include a still-life drawing group. Mondays from 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. offer a space and good company for artists and crafters. The Del Norte County Library at 190 Price Mall is also displaying work by member artists Nancy Chernak and Muriel Northrip. For more information, call 707-464-9133.
 
Coloring Book
DNACA’s first coloring book is available for sale at these local outlets: the Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at 1001 Front St, Crescent Harbor Gallery at 140 Marine Way, Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St, the Mail Room at 900 Northcrest Dr, and the Yurok Country Visitor Center at 101 Klamath Blvd in Klamath. A great gift for any special occasion, this book is hand drawn by local artist Rosemary Garcia, highlighting the “wild side” of Del Norte County with colorful critters. The coloring book includes captions in English, Tolowa, and Yurok and at the tail end of the book are factoids about each of the 17 featured creatures.
