Two Killed in Traffic Collision on Highway 199 Near Little Jones Creek Road on Friday
California Highway Patrol press release:
On July 19, 2019 at approximately 1320 hours, Crescent City CHP responded to a traffic crash on US-199 north of Little Jones Creek Road. Upon CHP arrival it was determined the crash involved a 2002 Honda motorcycle and a 2010 Ford F150 towing a utility trailer. Both vehicles were traveling southbound on US Highway 199, approaching Little Jones Creek Road, with the motorcycle ahead of the Ford.
As the motorcycle was nearing Little Jones Creek Road, the motorcycle pulled to the right shoulder and stopped. The driver of the Ford started to pass the motorcycle to the left when the motorcycle tipped over towards the left and into the southbound lane of US-199 directly into the path of the Ford and utility trailer. Both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were ejected onto the roadway and into the path of the Ford and trailer subsequently causing the driver causing the driver and passenger of the motorcycle to be struck by the trailer. The motorcycle rider and passenger succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced on scene.
US-199 was completely closed for approximately 35 minutes due to the incident before one way traffic control was established and continued for approximately an additional 90 minutes. The crash is still under investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.
