Eat some soup in a pretty bowl for a good cause before watching the Warriors take on the El Monte Lions in the 2019 CIF State Championship on Saturday:

The Community Food Council will hold an "Empty Bowls" fundraiser for its Pacific Pantry from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Crescent City Cultural Center.

The football game, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Mike Whalen Field, according to Del Norte Unified School District.

Handmade Ceramic Bowls and Soup Event to Raise Money for Pacific Pantry

 

You won’t want to miss this unique fundraising event, Empty Bowls, on Saturday, Dec 14^th from 4:00-7:00 at the Crescent City Cultural Center. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger on a community level. The model that has been utilized across the world, recruits local artisans to donate handmade bowls which are then sold at a soup dinner to raise money for local hunger-fighting organizations. Dinner guests pay a donation and get to choose a handmade bowl to take home as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. DNATL Community Food Council is utilizing the model to raise money for the Pacific Pantry and has acquired over 150 artisan bowls for the fundraiser.

 

Entrance fees to Empty Bowls will include all you can eat soup and bread, choice of a handmade bowl to keep, music, dessert, and silent auction. The dinner will feature a variety of soups and fresh baked breads from local restaurants and community members. Seaquake, Ocean 675, Good Harvest, and Bellenotte are some of the few that have donated gallons of their specialty soups for the event. Local artisans Harvey Munger, Mike Selfridge, Athena Csutoras, Mike Thomposon, HSU Ceramics Lab, Fire Art Studios, and more have donated hand thrown ceramic bowls to support the cause. Local thrift stores Maybe This Mall, Silva’s Attic, the Purple Cat, and St. Vincent de Paul Society have also pitched in to donate pieces of art they had in store.  Specialty pieces of art and incredible local experiences such as cooking classes, garden installation, fly fishing lessons, kayak trip, and lunch with the mayor will be presented through a silent auction to further raise funds for the pantry.

 

Andrea Lanctot, Food Program Coordinator says, “We have had artisans, restaurants, agencies, and community members coming forward who really believe in the mission of Pacific Pantry and have been working hard to make this event a success. We hope the community will join us in addressing hunger in Del Norte.”

 

Empty Bowls is part of a multifaceted fundraising campaign to raise $25,000 for Pacific Pantry, Del Norte’s only choice food pantry, by the end of the year. The Community Food Council has already risen $22,800 in three weeks through generous donations from the Caldwell Clan, Wild Rivers Community Foundation, Humboldt Area Foundation, St. Joes Hospital, and local donors. If the event draws 150 people or more, the organization will hit their goal.
