STATE CHAMPIONSHIP — Tickets Available At The Gate At 4 p.m. Saturday
School district representatives predict there will be more people standing than sitting in the bleachers at the CIS-NCS Championship game between the Del Norte Warriors and the El Monte Lions on Saturday.
Online tickets for the 6 p.m. game are sold out, Del Norte Unified School District spokesman Michael Hawkins told the Wild Rivers Outpost. But tickets will be available at Del Norte High School's Mike Whalen Field starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, he told the Outpost. The gate will open at 5p.m.
Hawkins said spectators should bring their rain coats.
“It’s going to be a really good game,” he said. “It’s definitely going to get a little muddy and, you know what, people are going to love it.”
This is the first time Del Norte High School has made it to the California Interscholastic Federation’s state championship, Hawkins said. Having a backup was necessary, but district representatives “jumped through all the hoops” to make sure the game is played in Del Norte County, he told the Outpost.
Though he is predicting the bleachers will be full, Hawkins said people will not be allowed to bring their own chairs. They will be asked to stand. People will be crowding around the field, which will be fenced, he told the Outpost
Tickets will be $12 for adults and $8 for seniors, Hawkins said. The CIF-NCS is the organization selling the tickets. Roughly $1 for every ticket goes toward the school district fo rhosting the game, Hawkins said.
“This is a moment in history for us,” Hawkins told the Outpost.
The National Weather Service forecast is calling for showers after 11 a.m. on Saturday with high temperatures near 47 degrees.
