Brian Scott Gallery
Brian Scott Gallery, located at 515 Chetco Ave in Brookings, is featuring the wood sculptures, agate boxes, and acrylic works of Brian Gibbons for the month of August. Alongside this work, the Gallery showcases more than 25 artists. The Gallery invites you to network while enjoying coffee, tea, and an ocean view on their patio in the Snug Studio for Brown Bag Thursdays from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. each week with Pete Chasar discussing all things art. Tomorrow’s music will be provided by Tiger Lily. The patio is always open with the Gallery, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Fog and Fine Art Gallery
Located in Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supply at 810 Chetco Ave in Brookings, the Fog and Fine Art Gallery will feature the art of recently passed Jay Mosby for the month of August. Jay was a well-loved local watercolorist who could be seen at all the local art events painting free portraits. His claim to fame was being an illustrator for Disney. The Gallery displays many local artists showing a variety of media including jewelry, pottery, painting, and more. The Gallery also has a dedicated classroom that inspires new and seasoned artists with workshops. The Gallery is open from 10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Saturday. Manley Art Center and Gallery
The Manley Art Center and Gallery at 433 Oak St in Brookings is featuring the show “Forgeries for Sale” through September 7. The Gallery is open 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Children of all ages are invited to the Center on Saturdays to see work created by member artists and to work in the classroom. Pistol River Concert Association
The Pistol River Concert Association presents Jimmy Grant Ensemble, Gypsy guitar, at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 at the Pistol River Friendship Hall at 24252 Carpenterville Rd in Pistol River. Friends of Music
Brookings Harbor Friends of Music announces their 35th season: Hannah Penn and David Saffert, a special program of light cabaret music on Sunday, October 6; ATOS Trio, acclaimed German piano trio on Sunday, November 3; Michael Brown, pianist, composer, and Lincoln Center emerging artist on Sunday, January 5; St. Petersburg Piano Quartet, Grammy-nominated ensemble on Sunday, February 9; Jasper String Quartet, with violin, cello and viola on Sunday, March 15; Rastrelli Cello Quartet, between-the-genres Russian ensemble on Sunday, April 5; and Mayuko Kamio, returning favorite virtuoso violinist on Sunday, April 26. Tickets are available for purchase at Wright’s Custom Framing at 810 Chetco Ave in Brookings. Tickets are $20 per event or $110 for the full season. Children 18 and under receive free admission. The season concludes on May 17 with their annual, free-of-charge scholarship concert with Alexander Tutanov, professor of piano at Southern Oregon University, and will feature students selected as scholarship recipients. Maiah Wynne
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness will open its 2019-20 season with a concert by Maiah Wynne at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 at Crescent Elk Auditorium at 994 G St in Crescent City. Wynne is a solo songwriter and vocalist who plays many instruments simultaneously while using an electronic looper pedal to create unprecedented sound. Tickets for individual performances are now available at Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St in Crescent City and at Wright’s Custom Framing at 810 Chetco Ave in Brookings. General tickets are $18, senior (65+) or transitional-aged youth (18-25 years old) are $15, and students (K-College, Full-Time) are $12. Arts for Veterans
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness is offering complimentary season tickets to the 37th Performance Series for veterans who self-identify as disabled and their family members.
 
Touring professional artist Maiah Wynne will lead a songwriting workshop for veterans and their family members while she is in Crescent City to perform in DNACA’s season. The workshop will take place from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 22 at the Del Norte Senior Center at 1765 Northcrest Dr in Crescent City.
 
A Qi Gong and Tai Chi class will be introduced at Pacific Northwest Physical Therapy at 255 I St in Crescent City from 12:45 p.m.-1:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 21. Participants will be led by teaching artists Andres and Kate Monreal in basic postures and eight Brocades. Wear comfortable clothes to stretch in and athletic shoes.
 
The next visual arts class will be a woodcarving workshop led by teaching artist Dianne Renee Shilling at the Del Norte Senior Center at 1765 Northcrest Dr in Crescent City. This introductory class will cover learning to carve with chisel and gouge and each student will complete a project of their choice. It will take place from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, September 28 through November 2. Registration and a hold harmless form are absolutely required for this class to ensure we have enough safety supplies for everyone.
 
The next drum circle with Mombo Hernandez will be from 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 28 at Howonquet Hall Community Center at 101 Indian Ct in Smith River. Hand drums and percussion instruments are provided.
 
The next course of guitar workshops with teaching artist Dale Morgan will take place in the Fireside Room of the VFW Hall at 810 H St in Crescent City. Beginning class takes place from 5:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m. on Mondays, September 30 through November 18. Intermediate class takes place from 5:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, October 1 through November 19.
 
All workshops are free-of-charge to veterans and their family members. Families are eligible whether or not the veteran participates. Music in the Redwoods
Music in the Redwoods, presented by the Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association, is celebrating 70 years of bringing quality live entertainment to our community. Their 2019-20 season includes: M5 Mexican Brass at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29; Trio Confero at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25; The Maxwell Quartet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6; and Duo Aliada at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17. Gallery of Arts and Culture
The Gallery of Arts and Culture at 175 H St is featuring artists Marianne Strehler and Daniel Desmond. Strehler has been drawing since she was a child and later began painting in oils and acrylics; her self-imposed challenge is to capture the essential beauty and uniqueness of an object. Desmond has been painting in oils for over 60 years and in watercolors and acrylics for 30 years; he focuses on landscapes and seascapes. The Gallery also has watercolor paintings by Nan Marie Wineinger on display at Redwood Urgent Care at 286 M S where the public is welcome to meet the staff and enjoy the art. Coast Redwoods Art Association
Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery, located at 140 Marine Way, will display a collection of artwork by their Artist of the Month for August, Cathy Dean. Their Annual National Juried Show will be showcased during September and October. September’s demo will be led by DéDé Nicolls in multi-media at noon on September 26, preceded by a potluck. Saturdays from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the gallery include a papier maché program. Sundays from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. include a still-life drawing group. Mondays from 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. offer a space and good company for artists and crafters. The Del Norte County Library at 190 Price Mall is also displaying work by member artists. California Redwoods Art Association
California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery, located at 1228 2nd St, will exhibit the winners of their Annual Florence Keller Juried Art Show for the month of September. The Gallery is also displaying members’ collections throughout the community, including: Sutter Coast Hospital and their Infusion Center, Vita Cucina, and Wild Rivers Community Foundation. Art in Public Places
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit in the Del Norte Superior Court at 450 H St in Crescent City is titled “Art by Veterans II,” a collection of artwork created in DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program; this exhibit will be available for viewing through September 26. The courthouse is open from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays. The public is invited to celebrate the artists at a reception from 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26. Live music by participants in the Arts for Veterans guitar class as well as refreshments will be provided. DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program is funded, in part, by Veterans in the Arts, a program of the California Arts Council. DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibit on the mezzanine of the CEC terminal at 1650 Dale Rupert Rd is titled “Fly Away with Me: A Year of Travel Photography,” a collection by Catherine Balck; this exhibit will be available for viewing through November 7. The airport terminal’s regular hours are 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. weekdays, 6:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Saturdays, and 6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Sundays. DNACA’s 37th Season Tickets
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness is excited to announce its 2019-20 season lineup: Maiah Wynne, solo multi-instrumentalist and songwriter on Saturday, September 21; California Guitar Trio, returning favorite fusion ensemble on Saturday, November 16; Barrio Manouche, Gypsy jazz and flamenco dance on Friday, February 21; Okaidja Afroso, Ghanaian music, dance and storytelling on Friday, April 3; and Sarah Hagen in her one-woman comedy, “Perk up, Pianist!” on Saturday, May 9. All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. and take place at Crescent Elk Auditorium at 994 G St in Crescent City. Season tickets provide a discount to the five individual performances and are transferable and replaceable if lost. They are available through November 16 in Crescent City at Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St and in Brookings at Wright’s Custom Framing at 810 Chetco Ave. General season tickets are $70, Senior (65+) are $55, Student (K-College, Full-Time) are $45, and Group (4 people total) are $160.
