Crescent Elk Teacher Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

Drury

A 57-year-old teacher at Crescent Elk Middle School is in jail after deputies seized “quite a bit of evidence” of suspected child pornography from his home Thursday.

Dennis Jace Drury, also known as Jason Drury, has been teaching sixth grade in Del Norte County since September.

Drury has been placed on administrative leave and Del Norte Unified School District officials are securing a substitute for his class, Superintendent Jeff Harris said.

“What we’re in the process of doing is notifying the families of students who were in his class,” Harris told the Outpost. “We’re also meeting with teachers and notifying the families of the school. If we have updates we’ll be putting them on our website.”

DNUSD will also provide counseling services and support for anyone who needs it at Crescent Elk, Harris said.

According to Scott, Sgt. LeAnn McClaflin and Investigator Dylan Balch served a search warrant at Drury’s home on the 100 block of Gingers Way near Hiouchi at about 7 a.m. The investigators found multiple images of suspected child pornography and seized “quite a bit of evidence” from his home, including hard drives, Scott said.

“That will continue the search warrant to download all that information to find out how many counts of child pornography we’re looking at,” the sheriff said. “Then there’s also the possibility of our district attorney adding more charges.”

Drury was booked into the Del Norte County Jail and is being held without bail.
