From a Manley Art Center news release:

Manley Art Center announces the opening reception for the December Art Exhibit, held Saturday, December 10th, 2022 from 3 to 6 PM at The Manley Art Center, located at 433 Oak Street in Brookings, Oregon.

The exhibit, on display from December 5th through December 30th, features a collection of work produced by the children who participated in the Manley Art Center’s Children’s Art Program (CAP) throughout 2022. A wide variety of pieces will be on display showcasing the diverse subject matter taught through Manley’s CAP
program. Several of the CAP students will be at the open reception to answer questions about their work and experience.

CAP is designed to teach art techniques and vocabulary to elementary school-age children.

The program focuses on the seven art elements; line, shape, form, space, texture, value, and color. Instructors also incorporate art history, materials, and techniques to ensure a solid foundation in art education. Students are encouraged to view and discuss art displayed in the gallery and art history images, to help expand their ability to articulate their thoughts and ideas when viewing and making art. Each lesson strives to bring their newly acquired knowledge to culminate in a completed piece of artwork.

The Manley Art Center believes it is our obligation to see that the children of this community have access to quality art education that enhances their understanding of fine art and their skills to create fine art. As Pablo Picasso once said, ‘Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up.’

The rest of the exhibit will be filled out with a variety of art created by the Manley Art Center members.

Proceeds from the sale of artwork are shared between the artists and the Manley Art Center. The Manley uses its portion to further its mission to promote, through education, the appreciation, distribution, and enjoyment of fine arts and crafts.
