Travel + Leisure Magazine Lists Harris Beach as One of the 25 Best Beaches in the U.S.

Curry County’s Harris Beach was recently named one of the 25 best beaches in the U.S. by the publication Travel + Leisure.

A popular destination for locals and tourists, Harris Beach State Park possesses nearly every quality of a “perfect beach,” according to the travel magazine.

“Many different criteria define the perfect beach: the sand, the waves (or lack thereof), the level of seclusion, the public transportation and accessible parking, the boardwalk, the activities, and even the amount of shaded trees,” Travel + Leisure stated.

While there’s no boardwalk, Harris Beach’s year-round camping, beautiful scenery and ample wildlife were enough to make the list.

“Harris Beach, located in a state park on Oregon's south coast, is known for its miles of sandy shoreline, interesting rock formations, and incredible tide pools,” Travel + Leisure wrote.  “Swimming, hiking, biking, and bird watching are some of the most popular activities here. Abundant wildlife, including migrating gray whales, harbor seals, and California sea lions, adds to year-round excitement. Plus, fully-equipped campgrounds for RVs, tents, and even a few yurts are located a quarter-mile from the beach.”

If this news has you anxious to hit the beach, don't let today's rain get you down. Summer is 46 days away.
