The Crescent City-Del Norte Chamber of Commerce is seeking ideas and nominations for the 4th of July parade theme, grand marshal and hometown heroes.

Theme ideas are due on Friday and grand marshal nominees are due April 25, according to District 2 Supervisor Valerie Starkey, one of the chamber’s two co-chairs for the 4th of July committee.

“Last year we had our public health nurses, they were our grand marshal,” she said. “My favorite is Hometown Heroes. That is something that was born out of the pandemic when we had no 4th of July to celebrate.”

Grand marshals nominees should be people who have displayed outstanding service, pride and commitment throughout the community.

Hometown Heroes are those who have shown “courage, strength or honor through adversity while living in Del Norte County,” according to the chamber. Last year 12 Hometown Heroes were honored with customized banners on light poles lining Front Street.

Submit nominations and theme ideas to chamber@delnorte.org.
