Del Norte COVID-19 Update: Ninth Person Dies; 55 New Cases Reported Over Weekend

A ninth person has died from COVID-19 and eight people are in the hospital, the Del Norte Public Health Branch reported on Monday.
There were also 55 new cases confirmed over the weekend and a total of 141 active cases in the county. According to the Del Norte Public Health Branch, there are nine new cases amongst the county’s incarcerated population.
This ninth death comes amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County. The Del Norte County Department of Public Health last week reported that the more contagious Delta variant has been confirmed in the county. The surge in positive cases last month was primarily related to workplaces and household transmission as well as some related to gatherings over the Fourth of July.
There have been a total of 1,732 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County since the pandemic began, according to the Public Health Branch.
