OBITUARY: Edythemay (Edy) Garrett, 1934-2020


Edythemay (Edy) Garrett passed away on March 3, 2020 at her home in Gasquet. She was born in Montebello, Calif. on October 11, 1934 to Douglas and Ruth Grover. Edy graduated from Montebello High School in 1952.

She lived, worked and raised her daughters in Southern California until she moved to Crescent City in 1988. Edy fell in love and married Rod Garrett in 2001 moving to Gasquet. Edy and Rod enjoyed dancing, motorcycle trips and camping with their “travel group”. While living in Del Norte County, Edy worked for Dutra Trucking and Del Norte Unified School District until she retired. Edy was very active in the community and served as Worthy Matron of Del Norte Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, President of Crescent City Women’s Club, Council member and pianist for Job’s Daughters Bethel 182, attended the Christian Women’s Fellowship and served as a member of the Mission Committee including Senior Warden for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Edy is best remembered for her sunny personality, giving nature and helpful spirit. She dearly loved the Lord and especially enjoyed the gifts of singing, playing the piano and dancing.

Edy is survived by her husband Roderick Garrett (19 years), her sister Lue Brown, daughters Jeannine Galatioto, Janet Caselli (David), Joanna Wuest (George) and Stephanie Ortiz (Rob), and nephew Bil Brown (Suzanne). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren Jessica Seaman, JoLynn McCorkle, Jennifer Watkins, Jenalee Cirafice, Jared Wuest, Jared Ornelas, Johnni Wuest, Seth Ortiz and Sachary Ortiz and 9 great-grandchildren.
