Public Health Distinguishes COVID-19 Cases At Prison From Residents; 10 New Patients Identified Wednesday

The Public Health Branch announced Wednesday that it will not include  Pelican Bay State Prison inmates in its overall count of active COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County.

This decision comes as positive results were reported for 10 county residents, while seven prisoners tested positive for COVID-19, according to the county's information hub.

There are currently 134 cases in Del Norte County and two people in the hospital.

At Pelican Bay there are 80 inmates with COVID-19.

The state does not consider the number of prison inmates with active disease when determining Del Norte County's status on its Blueprint for a Safer Economy, according to the Public Health Branch.

Del Norte is currently in the state's most restrictive purple tier, which indicates widespread disease activity in the county. For more information about disease activity at Pelican Bay, click here.
