Del Norte County's First Coronavirus Fatality Recorded Today, Says Emergency Services

Press release from the County of Del Norte's Emergency Services Department:

We are deeply saddened to report that a Del Norte County community member has died after being hospitalized for COVID-19 symptoms and was confirmed positive. Our hearts go out to this person’s loved ones and all those who are mourning. The person who passed away was over 65 years of age and experienced multiple underlying health conditions.

Case investigation for this person’s COVID-19 illness suggests that this was a community-acquired infection. No specific place or event was identified as the source of the infection.

This case represents a milestone for our community and is a tragic reminder that we must all do our part to protect each other, especially our most vulnerable. We are urging our community to be diligent in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our community by:

• Wearing a face covering in public
• Washing hands often
• Maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet from others not in your household
• Avoiding gatherings
• Limiting non-essential travel
• Avoiding those who are sick
• Staying home if you are sick
