BioBlitz at Prairie Creek

For California Biodiversity Day

Orick, Calif.— September 7th is California Biodiversity Day. This year, California State Parks will be hosting a BioBlitz at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park from 8am - 4pm, with help from the National Park Service, Redwood Parks Conservancy, and the Save the Redwoods League. BioBlitzes are events that allow citizen scientists to collect information about the biodiversity in a given area using the iNaturalist app. Naturalists will lead field trips and assist participants in species identification to capture a snapshot of biodiversity in the park. Registration opens at 8am at the Prairie Creek Campfire Center, orientation starts at 9am, and the official BioBlitz begins at 10am. Participants will reconvene from 2pm to 4pm for refreshments and a recap of the biodiversity captured. To take part in the BioBlitz download the iNaturalist app on to your smart phone before the event or just show up and join in with an iNaturalist expert. For more participating locations visit wildlife.ca.gov/biodiversity.
