Report of Armed Man Puts Pine Grove Elementary on Brief Lockdown

A report of an armed individual in a car near Pine Grove Elementary School prompted the principal and staff to issue a schoolwide lockdown before calling law enforcement.

From a Del Norte Unified School District news release:

Today at approximately 12:45, the Principal at Pine Grove School was informed that an armed individual was seen in a vehicle outside of the school.  She and her staff immediately responded by contacting law enforcement and implementing a schoolwide lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Due to the rapid response of local law enforcement agencies, the individual was taken into custody within minutes of the call.

At this time, we have not been made aware by law enforcement of any connection between the individual and any student or school personnel nor have we been notified of any other information regarding the situation.

Providing a safe and secure learning environment is a top priority at our schools, and we take these incidents very seriously.  For more information on this incident, please contact the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office at 464-4191.
