A storage unit belonging to Nature’s Coastal Holiday, host of the annual Christmas light show in Brookings’ Azalea Park, was broken into, the organization reported Tuesday.

A John Deere TE 4X2 Electric Gator yard mule and the trailer it sat on were stolen, according to a Facebook post, and they’re seeking help from the community to find it.

“We are not the real victims!” The organization wrote. “Every man, woman and child that has ever strung lights, served a cookie to a visitor or enjoyed the show is the victim.”

According to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, the break-in at Hewitt’s Stor-All on DeMoss Road north of Brookings occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8. Both the Gator and the Big Tex Trailer were valued at a total of about $16,500. A blue and white Burton snow board along with the black and white Burton bag it was in, valued at about $500, were taken from another unit.

The burglars had allegedly cut the locks off several units at the storage facility, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office stated.

Surveillance footage shows a late model red four-door car leaving Hewitt’s storage towing the trailer and the John Deere Gator. Anyone recognizing the vehicle or who have information on the suspects are asked to call either Det. Freeman or Det. Shannon at (541) 247-3243.
