Del Norte COVID-19 Update: New Cases Increase While Overall Number of Active COVID Patients Decrease

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County increased on Friday, though the total of overall active cases is down from Thursday.

The county Public Health Branch reported 30 new COVID patients on Friday with a total of 131 active coronavirus cases in Del Norte County. The number of active cases is down from Thursday’s total of 143, according to the county’s COVID-19 Information Hub.

The number of people in the hospital with COVID has also decreased. On Friday, the county reported that 12 people were hospitalized with coronavirus symptoms, three fewer than the day before.

Del Norte County’s death rate is still 36. No new fatalities were reported on Friday.

At a community briefing on the COVID-19 surge in Del Norte County, Public Health Officer Dr. Aaron Stutz reported that as of Wednesday, 46.9 people have been fully inoculated against the virus — a 1 percent increase from the previous week. Nearly 8 percent of Del Norte County’s population has been partially vaccinated, according to data from the California Department of Public Health.

Del Norte County has seen a total of 3,539 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in March.
