Twenty-seven new COVID-19 cases were identified in Del Norte County over the weekend, the Public Health Branch reported Monday.

There are currently 55 active COVID-19 cases in the county with 64 new cases reported in the last 14 days, according to the county’s COVID-19 Information Page. There are no hospitalizations currently.

The new report comes after Heather Snow, the director of the Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services, said there were 90 new COVID-19 cases in the county between July 1 and July 25. Many of those cases were related to household gatherings over the Independence Day holiday, she told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Monday.

Most cases are occurring among people who haven’t received the COVID-19 vaccine, Snow said.

Del Norte County has seen 1,581 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began and eight people have died, according to the Public Health Branch.
