Del Norte, Curry County Art Scene: Writing Classes for Veterans


Two writing classes are being offered to veterans and their families through the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness.

One is a creative writing class where participants will explore different writing styles and share prompts and ideas with teacher Billie Ruth Furuichi.

The other is a poetry class focused on the natural world with teacher and published author Terri Glass.

Both are free to veterans, active military and their family. The creative writing class will be held from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. via Zoom Tuesdays and Thursdays starting April 20.

Glass's poetry class will be held from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. via Zoom on Wednesdays starting May 5.

Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) presents a course of Beginning Guitar Workshops with teaching artist Dale Morgan. Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) presents the work of artist Jonathan Gaetke. This is the last chance to see the exhibit of oil paintings entitled “A Scenic Vision,” currently on display at the Del Norte Courthouse until April 22. The courthouse is located at 450 H St. in Crescent City, and is open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays, except for state holidays. “Del Norte Scenes”
Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) presents the work of artist Edward Reidel, who recently won First Place in DNACA’s 29th Annual Juried Art Exhibition. His exhibit “Del Norte Scenes” is on display at the 2nd floor mezzanine of the CEC Airport at 1650 Dale Rupert Rd, March 5 - June 17 as part of DNACA’s Art in Public Places program. The airport terminal’s regular hours are 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays, 6 a.m. - 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sundays. ETC Membership Gala
The 15th Annual Membership Gala is now being presented virtually on Facebook @EllensburgTheaterCompany. The virtual Gala is available to viewing through April 20, and features clips from past ETC performances, previews of upcoming events, musical acts, interviews, and comedy sketches. Mother's Day card-making class
Crescent City Art at 1228 2nd St., Crescent City, is now open to the public Wednesday - Saturday from 12 p.m. - 5p.m. The Gallery is offering a Mother’s Day card making class for adults, May 1 at 1 p.m. Cost is $15 per person for supplies to make two pop-up cards. Grant Opportunity
Crescent Harbor Art Gallery was awarded a grant to provide free one-year memberships to its gallery for Del Norte County artists who are Indigenous, Black, or other People of Color. Funding for this award was provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the California Arts Council, a state agency, and their local partner Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA). Under a separate program, free memberships are also being offered to a limited number of people who don’t qualify for the grant program but who may need financial assistance to become a member. The Del Norte community at large is invited to become members of Crescent Harbor Art Gallery. “Colorful Critters of Del Norte County”
Spring activities are easy with the book “Colorful Critters of Del Norte County.” The book is made for meditative coloring and stress reduction for adults, and fun learning for children, with hand drawn illustrations by local artist Rosemary Garcia. Highlighting the “wild side” of Del Norte County with colorful critters, the book includes captions in English, Tolowa, and Yurok, and at the end of the book interesting facts about the featured animals are included. A LIMITED SUPPLY of “Colorful Critters of Del Norte County” is available at the Requa Inn at 451 Requa Rd, Klamath, and at Wright’s Custom Framing in Brookings. Fog and Fine Art Gallery
Located in Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supply, 810 Chetco Ave. Brookings, the Gallery features 36 local artists in a variety of mediums and features a classroom to inspire new and seasoned artists with workshops. The current Featured Artist is artist David Haynes. His works include digitally enhanced photography and mixed media application. The classroom Gallery holds the works of Frank Gustufsen and Jay Mosbey. The Gallery is open from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday. Manley Art Center and Gallery
Manley Art Center and Gallery is located at 433 Oak St. in Brookings. Photographer Calvin Casey is the Gallery’s April featured artist with his exhibit “Famous Landmarks”, which features vivid colors and interesting local flavor subject matter. Recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Calvin uses photography to stay active and slow the progression of the disease. Gallery of Arts and Culture
The Gallery of Arts & Culture at 175 H St., Crescent City, is now open. Masks and gloves will be required according to the Department of Public Health, until they are certain the virus is abating. The Gallery has been sanitized and freshened, and is ready to welcome guests and visitors.
