Free Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing Begins Friday; People Need to Register Online

Del Norte County residents will have access to a new community-based testing site for COVID-19 starting Friday.

From a Thursday announcement from the Del Norte County Office of Emergency Services:

Del Norte County Public Health and the Office of Emergency Services have partnered with the Del Norte Unified School District, State of California, and Verily to open a new community-based testing site (CBTS) to expand COVID-19 testing for Del Norte residents.

Drive thru testing will begin this week, Friday and Saturday, May 29th and 30th, from 9am to 2pm at Del Norte High School. Beginning next week, testing will take place Mondays thru Wednesdays, and in the future it is hoped to expand the program to bring testing to our outlying communities.

This is a free service to help protect the public health and safety of our community. You must register online before coming to the test site.

Starting today, residents can go through the online registration process including screening of symptoms, whether they are experiencing any or not, and make an appointment online for testing using the Baseline COVID-19 Program online screener and appointment scheduling system found at www.projectbaseline.com/COVID19.

Dr. Rehwaldt offers "This testing facility is a huge benefit to this community, and will help us monitor and contain movement of the coronavirus. We are very excited to see it up and running this week. Check it out, sign up online and get a test done!"

Eligible persons must be 18 years or older, live in Del Norte County, and be willing to electronically sign the COVID-19 Public Health Authorization Form and Lab Consent. Based on the COVID-19 screener and testing appointment availability, individuals will be provided a testing location appointment. Please visit www.projectbaseline.com/COVID19 to learn more.

For those individuals without online access or who are not English-proficient, the Department of Health and Human Services is providing assistance via telephone or in person. For assistance, please call 707-464-3191 or visit 880 Northcrest Dr., Crescent City, Monday thru Friday, 8am – 5pm (closed for lunch, 12pm – 1pm).
