The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) continues its 37th Performance Series at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16 in Crescent Elk Auditorium at 994 G St in Crescent City with California Guitar Trio, a returning favorite of Del Norte audiences.

Exploring the intersections of rock, jazz, classical, and world music, California Guitar Trio has an uncanny ability to connect with their audiences through dazzling musicianship, captivating stories, and humor. With a goal to engage concertgoers, making them feel as though they are part of the music rather than passive spectators, the trio succeeds in transcending their instruments.

Comprised of Bert Lams, Hideyo Moriya, and Paul Richards, the group is a true sum of its parts. Richards immersed himself in an array of rock, blues, jazz, and folk music while attending the University of Utah’s jazz guitar program; he now resides in Los Angeles. Lams, originally from Belgium, graduated from the prestigious Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, specializing in classical guitar. Tokyo-born Moriya began his guitar career with surf music and British rock before moving to Boston to study at the formidable Berklee College of Music. The three met in 1987 at Robert Fripp’s challenging Guitar Craft courses before going on tour with Fripp’s League of Crafty Guitarists. Four years later, they formed their own band, California Guitar Trio, which has proven to be a roaring success.

These three guitar players have been touring together since 1991 and their 16 albums have been streamed over 65 million times. The trio has made a global impact, with claims to fame such as the soundtrack for Olympics coverage, programs on major cable networks, and NASA’s musical choice to wake the crew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Their most recent album, “Komorebi,” explores their acoustic side with lush original compositions as well as innovative cover arrangements of The Beatles, Beach Boys, and other top hits. Another stunning album of theirs that showcases their versatility is “Masterworks,” a collection of classical music with expansive takes on Bach, Beethoven, and Schubert.

Tickets for the concert are available in Crescent City at Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St and in Brookings at Wright’s Custom Framing at 810 Chetco Ave or online.

Tickets will also be available at the door, which opens at 6:15 p.m. on November 16. General tickets are $18, senior (65 years and older) are $15, transitional-aged youth (18-25 years old) are $15, and students (K-college, full-time) are $12.

Season tickets are also available at these locations until November 16. They still provide a discount to attend the remaining four performances and are transferable and replaceable if lost. General season tickets are $70, seniors are $55, students are $45, and group passes (four people total) are $160.

Underwriters who are a part of Wild Rivers Community Foundation are the Del Norte Area Fund and Physicians’ Community Fund. Our in-kind supporters are Bicoastal Media and the Del Norte Triplicate. DNACA is a State-Local Partner, funded in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency. Learn more at www.arts.ca.gov. We are also supported, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
