Medford-Based Supportive Housing Program Will Make Presentation Before Del Norte Supervisors

Representatives of Rogue Retreat Development on Tuesday will give a presentation to the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors about its Hope Village program.

Based in Medford, Hope Village offers shelter to homeless men and women in tiny house duplex units. Clients are required to undergo case management, which helps them get sober, find employment and a permanent place to live, according to Mike Tompkins, a leader in True North Organizing Network’s Homeless Local Organizing Committee. Tompkins and other True North representatives visited the facility in June.

This presentation comes as county representatives work with Housing Tools, a consultant funded with $75,000 in state No Place Like Home dollars to establish a permanent supportive housing plan for Del Norte.

Other steps taken to address homelessness locally include the Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services offering behavioral health support to those visiting Our Daily Bread Ministries. The ministry, which serves meals five days a week and offers emergency shelter during inclement weather, is also working on becoming a 24-hour shelter.

Other items on the agenda include an update on the Smith River National Recreation Area and a discussion on the 2019 Grand Jury Report.

The Board of Supervisors will also consider amending the policies and procedures for providing relief to indigent persons in the county, according to the agenda.

The Del Norte County Board of Supervisors meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Flynn Center, 981 H Street in Crescent City. For the agenda and staff reports, http://agendas.dnco.org/
